Common Name: Acropora Eating Flatworm
Scientific Name: Amakusaplana acroporae
The Acropora Eating Flatworm can only be found on Acropora, they consume coral tissue and are extremely well-camouflaged. Their presence can be seen by feeding scars on the coral, which expose the coral skeleton. The worm can grow to several millimeter in size and are often seen as brown-clear flat bodies on the coral. The eggs are reddish brown dots with the white dead tissue around them on the coral. Although this flatworms is a very kown problem in the aquarium hobby, very little was known about them. Use of medication inside the display tank is not advised as flatworms are particularly problematic because when exposed to chemical treatments they may release toxins into the water that harm corals and fishes. Setup a seperate small tank is advised, then moving the infected coral out of the main tank and dip it in chemical treatment. Remember, Acropora Eating Flatworm can only be found on Acropora.
