Common Name: Feather Duster
Scientific Name: Sabellastarte spp.
The Feather Dusters are extremely common and can be found in almost any marine aquarium on live rock and on the glass. They are worms and grow in a variety of colorations and sizes with the common trait of having a “feather duster” structure at their end. They are beneficial filter feeders and considered as a sign of a good ecosystem. The worm lives in a tube and uses its “feather duster crown” to catch particles floating in the water. They will retract the crown into the tube when spooked. They can be colonial or can be individual. Some large and high-end specimens can be found in fish stores.
